Microtia & Ear deformities

Microtia & Ear deformities

Surgery is the best treatment for this condition as it can reconstruct the external ear. It can correct both external and internal ear deformity and inner ear canal problems.  Surgery is advised after  the age of 4 and 10 years. Further treatment is also suggested when the child has these birth defects. In most cases, children after surgery will be able to lead healthy lives. Surgery can improve their confidence and save them from any sort of inferiority complex.

There are four microtia grades.

Level Ist. The ear canal in your child may be narrowed or absent, despite the fact that the external ear appears small but otherwise normal.

Level 2nd. Although the top two-thirds of your child's ear are small and deformed, the bottom third, which includes the earlobe, may appear to be normally developed. There could be a narrow or absent ear canal.

Level 3rdThe most typical form of microtia in young children and infants is this one. It's possible that your child has small, underdeveloped external ear structures like the top cartilage and the beginnings of a lobe. There typically isn't an ear canal in grade III microtia.

Level 4th. Anotia is another name for the severest variety of microtia. If there isn't an ear or an ear canal present, either unilaterally or bilaterally, your child has anotia.
